Light Installation

A light installation for digital manufacturing

A light installation made of thin steel sheets especially for the Jerusalem light festival.

The project aspires to be make with minimal manual work using digital manufacturing processes.

 

Using grasshopper a structure of polyhedrons is generated, each polyhedron can be broken into a flat layout that is cut and folded into the assembly.

Production steps:

1. Generate a solid shape of multiple polyhedrons

2. Break into separate shapes

3. Create flat outline for each shape with guidance marks and holes for connecting the shapes

3. Laser cut each outline

4. Fold each piece according to the marks

5. assemble all pieces together

The only manual steps are 4&5 - the folding and connecting the different pieces. The rest of the steps are fully automated.
